Specialization

In cooperation with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Presidency of Strategy and Budget, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), the project "Mission Differentiation and Specialization Focused on Regional Development" has been initiated. This project aims to increase the contribution of higher education institutions established after 2006 to their region and encourage universities to specialize in specific fields.

40 universities that were established after 2006, 24 expressed their desire to take part in this process, and these 24 universities were evaluated by taking into account many parameters and by carrying out regional normalization studies. The evaluation process for the determination of 5 pilot universities was completed on October 18, 2016, within the scope of the program work on the "Mission Differentiation and Specialization of Our Universities Focused on Regional Development", coordinated by the YÖK Presidency and carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Development. Uşak University has been determined as the pilot higher education institution of the regional development-oriented mission differentiation program in the fields of textile, leather, and ceramics.

After this process, Uşak University, which came together with the industrialists and institutions of the region, determined the needs of the region. Uşak, which is one of the important centers of the textile, leather, and ceramics industries in Turkey, ranks fourth among the cities with the lowest unemployment according to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, and has an intense employment area, has the biggest problems in the production of value-added products, creating brand value, institutionalism and recognition. In order to overcome these bottlenecks, bring the vision to the region, and level up the industry in the region, it is planned to establish a design center, which is the common need of all three sectors. According to this plan, the Leather, Textile, and Ceramics Design Application and Research Center (DTS Design Center) was established in Uşak at the end of 2018.

DTS Design Center, the first design center established in public institutions, has started its activities with the aim of being competitive on an international scale, adding value to its region and country, and becoming a worldwide brand center. It has created its human infrastructure with its staff consisting of designers and engineers, all of whom have significant industry experience. In addition, DTS Design Center, which provides software, technical devices and infrastructure equipment suitable for technological developments in the world, has reached a level that can compete with international design studios.
