Great Support from Uşak University to Healthcare Professionals

Uşak University supported the production of masks and visors needed by healthcare workers to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. While 7 thousand 500 masks were sewn by the Faculty of Fine Arts and the DTS Design Center, the Vocational School of Technical Sciences produced more than 300 face shields.

Stating that they started to produce masks in order to support the health workers in the province, especially the health workers in Uşak Training and Research Hospital, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof Dr. Şebnem Ruhsar Temir Gökçeli said, “Together with our DTS Design Center, we are doing everything we can to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. With the support of our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş, we are sewing masks together with our faculty members, especially our faculty members, and our teaching staff at our DTS Design Center.” DTS Design Center Director, Associate Professor Ş. Baran Tarhan, who gave information about mask production, said that after the masks were sewn by the instructors, they were vacuumed in 25 and 50 packages, and the vacuumed packages were heat treated at 75 degrees for 45 minutes. Stating that the masks produced will be distributed to the health institutions in need by the Rectorate of Uşak University, Tarhan said, “We are having trouble in the supply of the fabrics used for the masks. With the limited material we have, all of our friends are working devotedly to sewing masks day and night. Thank you to everyone who supported.” he said. In addition to sewing masks, face shields were produced for healthcare workers fighting against the epidemic in the Computer Technologies Department of the Vocational School of Technical Sciences.

Head of Computer Technologies Department, Lecturer Hüseyin Coşkun, and Computer Technologies graduate student Yakut Özcan, 3D Support Uşak Representative, produced a face shield for healthcare professionals working in Uşak using the 3D printer in the department. Stating that the production of these apparatuses is a time-consuming process, Coşkun said, “Normally, the production of these apparatuses with a 3D printer takes 2 - 2.5 hours and 50 g of printing material is used per apparatus. As a result of the improvements we made, we were able to produce 3 apparatus in only 54 minutes and in 34 gr. In this way, we were able to produce an average of 35 face shields per day with our single 3D printer. So far, we have delivered 350 face shields to our healthcare workers. Our school principal, Assoc. Dr. I would like to thank Mustafa Ali Ersöz and my fellow lecturers.” used the phrases.
